Clay At Home
with instructor Brendan Roddy

(This program is open to adults and teens ages 13+)

This will be a 7-week at-home course:

  • 3 video lessons
  • 2 live ZOOM classes
  • 1 week of project drop-off at River Tree Arts (week of April 5)
  • 1 week of in-person glazing at River Tree Arts (week of April 12)

Classes begin March 1, 2021

Ceramics Instructor Brendan Roddy will bring you into his home for this virtual clay course - Clay At Home! This course is designed to be a combination of asynchronous and synchronous learning with step-by-step instructions to create hand-built pieces for students to further their ideas and creativity. The projects are designed to be created with tools and items found in your home and are suitable for beginners and advanced students.

Join Brendan in his home studio two evenings of this course for live virtual classes- you can ask questions, get feedback, learn new techniques together, and just socialize during this time of social distancing. River Tree Arts will make arrangements for pick-up of clay and some materials, schedule drop-off times for firing, and will make arrangements for glazing so students will have finished pieces - all while keeping social distancing recommendations and health protocols in place. All necessary precautions will be taken to keep our students and faculty safe and healthy during this course and time we are away from River Tree Arts.

River Tree Arts will provide: 25lbs of clay, string for cutting clay, plastic for storage, paintbrush, wooden block, and canvas to work on. (curbside pick up of materials at River Tree Arts, Kennebunk)

What you'll need at home: old toothbrush if you have one, an old credit card or playing card if you have one, scissors if you have a pair, a piece of cardboard if you have some, paper or newspaper, a pencil or pen, a sponge, a bowl or water container, a fork, a spoon, a knife, and a variety of objects that you can use to create textures (optional).
